For over twenty-five years, Andrew Small has built a reputation as a highly regarded drummer, musical director and producer trusted by the likes of Kylie, Massive Attack and Il Divo. In a successful career he has appeared on thousands of stages on six continents, to combined audiences of millions. He belongs in a select group of session players who have managed to deliver original solo material that matches the production quality of the diverse artists they perform with. In creating 'What Happens Now?' the London born musician showcases his compositional and production skills. Combining jazz, afro-Cuban, neo-soul, gospel and orchestral infuences, this eclectic collection of material draws inspiration from far and wide. An exceptional group of musicians was assembled for this recording, gathered from the UK session scene and beyond. The opening track ‘Yummy’ sets the pace with a commanding groove and infectious melody. Blistering horn lines plus energetic percussion help to propel the track towards it’s climactic ending. The lush string arrangement and soaring soprano saxophone on the title track is another highlight. ‘Crisps & Chocolate’ sees Chicago native Steve Cole give a dynamic performance on tenor saxophone. Fellow US sax man Euge Groove is equally compelling on the exhilarating smooth jazz inspired ‘All The Answers’. After a year locked away in his studio, immersing himself in the writing and recording process, Small now aims to take to the road again with his own music for the first time.
