DANTESCO is today the most famous HEAVY METAL band hailing from the isle of Puerto Rico. Formed in 2002, DANTESCO has quickly built its reputation around a successful live activity which has seen them playing with bands such as JUDAS PRIEST, GRIM REAPER, EXCITER, DEMON, RIOT among others. In 2006 DANTESCO released its first album “De la mano de la muerte”, 11 tracks of obscure and epic metal, a release that made the band also known abroad and got them on German festivals such as the KEEP IT TRUE and DOOM SHALL RISE. After months spent in the studio, by the beginning of 2008, the band released locally their second album “Pagano”, which is now licensed worldwide by CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC with two additional bonus tracks. “Pagano” shows from the first notes an incredible change in Dantesco’s offering compared to the first album, with the distinctive and operatic vocals of Erico “La Bestia” taking the lead, perfectly accompanied by some of the most classic guitars you can hear in today’s HEAVY METAL scene. The songs are built again on an epic and heavy metal background, reminding of classic acts such as Mercyful Fate and Candlemass but sometimes, with their complex structure, going even further back in time to the 70s, to the roots of hard rock/heavy metal. The lyrics, in Spanish, deals with historic and mythological events and figures such as Beowulf and Anibal and the Crusades, but also with Pagan themes as the title in the end suggests. To be noted the two bonus tracks, “I Came from Hell” is the first DANTESCO song ever sung in English and “Gethsemane” is Dantesco’s personal interpretation of the “Jesus Christ’s Superstar” song (originally sung by Ian Gillan). “Pagano”’s original and marvellous artwork was created by Jowita Kaminska, the renowned Artist, who in the past has worked for Exodus, Manilla Road, Attacker among the others.
