Royal Forest are a psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas, formerly called Loxsly. Accompanying the name change was the group’s move away from the shoegazey synth-laden sound they’d be come known for in favor of a drier guitar driven direction. Soon after they began work on their second album in a log cabin away from distraction. Armed with an 8 track reel to reel and a bare bones assortment of microphones and melodies, a week of experimentation in the woods led them back to their studio in Austin, Texas with the beginnings of their new release, Spillway.
Royal Forest record and produce everything they release themselves, from the recordings to videos and artwork, and they often put themselves in compromising situations to see where it takes them. They have recorded and filmed songs in an aeroplane above Austin, inside a WWII submarine, and during a lightning storm in the desert sand dunes of West Texas.
Their latest LP, Spillway, was recorded to tape by the band and mastered at Abbey Road Studios.
