On this, 808’s sixth album, samples and breaks moved to one side to accommodate more instruments, guitars, and pawn shop electronics. In the studio there was a determination to experiment – a dogged approach to incorporating these new instruments into the tracks they developed. Samples still had their place though – in the writing process, as opposed to being the final hook.
