THE SECOND STUDIO ALBUM OF UGLY METAL FROM THE NORWEGIAN BLACK THRASH PIONEERS.
Norway's Aura Noir was formed in 1993 by Aggressor (ex-DHG, Ved Buens Ende, Virus) & Apollyon (Coffin Storm, ex-DHG, ex-Immortal) in pursuit of a more thrash-based form of black metal than much of what was coming out at the time - particularly in their homeland - citing bands such as Slayer, Sodom & Kreator as inspirations along with purveyors of the scene such as Venom, for a dirtier, stripped down, violent black/thrash metal sound. Aura Noir was also notable for the inclusion of former Mayhem guitar maestro, Blasphemer (RUIM).
‘Deep Tracts Of Hell’ was Aura Noir's second album, & was originally released in 1998, taking the ferocity displayed on their debut, 'Black Thrash Attack' to greater heights, with Apollyon & Aggressor each sharing drums, guitars & vocal duties between tracks. The album was recorded & mixed at Jester Studios by Kristoffer Rygg (Ulver) in July 1998.
