Formed in New York City in 1973, KISS stormed the rock world with their explosive blend of anthemic songs, flamboyant costumes, striking face paint, and larger-than-life live performances. By the time Asylum was released in 1985, the band had already conquered the charts, weathered the turbulent late ’70s, and reinvented themselves for a new generation of fans.
The 1980s marked a new era of stability and resurgence for KISS. With Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Carr, and Bruce Kulick at the helm, the band enjoyed its most settled line-up since the original quartet. Having shed their iconic make-up in 1983, KISS embraced a sharper, more contemporary sound and image. Asylum, their thirteenth studio album, reflected that shift and marked the beginning of a run of platinum-certified releases for a band that had faced its share of challenges in the preceding decade.
The Asylum Tour, running from 29 November 1985 to 12 April 1986, was a full-blown rock spectacle. Across 91 shows, KISS delivered a dazzling display of lights, lasers, pyrotechnics, and attitude. The tour reaffirmed their reputation as masters of showmanship, combining fierce musicianship with production values that were bigger, louder, and brighter than ever before. Their new material added fresh energy and chemistry to the live performances, showcasing a band revitalised.
