On October 9th Loreena McKennitt releases the second instalment in an on-going series of Definitive Editions celebrating the highlights of her recording career to-date.
The Mask and Mirror Definitive Edition expands on the original 1994 release shedding new light on a major turning point in the multi-platinum, 20 million album selling career of the storied Canadian singer, composer, advocate, entrepreneur and philanthropist. The Mask and Mirror Definitive Edition, the sequel to 2021's The Visit Definitive Edition, is a four disc set comprised of two compact discs, a dvd and an audio BluRay housed in a deluxe hard back book containing a 32 page booklet that features the original artwork and sleeve notes plus an essay authored by Loreena herself and memorabilia from 1994 and 1995 marking the recording, release and promotion of this landmark recording.
Highlights of The Mask and Mirror Definitive Edition include:
- The re-mastered version of the original studio recording in both stereo (cd1) and HD Stereo (BluRay)
- All new Dolby Atmos (BluRay) and 5.1 (dvd & BluRay) immersive mixes of the original studio recording produced by Jeff Wolpert
- A previously unreleased and restored re-master of Loreena's Mountain Stage concert broadcast for US radio in 1994 (cd2)
- A previously unreleased and restored 30 minute 1994 promotional concert film (dvd) shot at the Avon Theatre in Loreena's hometown of Stratford Ontario
- A previously unreleased re-mastered version of the 1995 made-for-PBS television documentary No Journey's End (dvd)
- Over an hour of audio book material, narrated by Loreena herself, (cd1 & cd2) featuring the original Mask & Mirror Words and Music promotional interview from 1994 plus a recording of her reading her essay from the Definitive Edition box set booklet.
The Mask and Mirror Definitive Edition release campaign is to be supported in Europe in 2027 by the third leg of McKennitt's The Mask and Mirror Anniversary Tour which will see her play at least 30 shows in eight northern European countries between February 22nd and April 3rd and feature performances of The Mask and Mirror in its entirety.
