"Provenance of Cruelty" is the second album of Mactätus, originally released by Napalm Records in late 1998. At the time of its release the hype for Scandinavian Black Metal in general and Symphonic and Melodic Black Metal in particular was already declining. The result was that at the time of its release "Provenance of Cruelty" was not as appreciated by a majority of fans as the earlier classics before and remained a bit obscure and underrated for quite some time.
Nonetheless this is an absolute masterpiece, one of the best albums in the genre, and definitely belongs in every Symphonic or Melodic Black Metal collection, which is the reason why it’s being re-released by Northern Silence on strictly limited DigiCD and for the first time ever on vinyl. Fans of the early albums of Emperor, Limbonic Art, Gehenna, Dimmu Borgir or Mörk Gryning should definitely check it out if they don't know it yet.
The CD comes as Collector’s Edition in 8-panel Digipack, limited to 500 copies, released under exclusive license from Napalm Records.
