The Dark Side of the Soul (An Anatomy of the Soul) revitalizes and showcases the face of the new Brazilian thrash metal, specifically emerging from the city of Belo Horizonte, birthplace of Sepultura. Merciless from  beginning to end, this album is a true neck breaker — fulfilling the mission of genuine thrash metal! The Mist returns to its roots with a conceptual album, in the vein of The Hangman Tree, the work that established the band in the 1990s. But with one difference: the album’s narrative feels like it wants to rip your fingernails out one by one. The album begins with a dialogue between ghosts, warning about the brevity of life and reminding that at any moment you could be crushed by a car. So: wake up! The improbable dialogues continue, now between a tormented soul and a body driven by a furious brain, firing at everything and everyone with discourses of hatred, vengeance, and sarcasm — a critique of where we have arrived, with no point of return. It denounces futility, vanity, and the loss of what is most precious to us: our humanity.
