January, 2008 - early days for the Obits. With the Hot Snakes on hiatus and Rick Froberg in NY, the Obits started jamming as early as 2006, but with the addition of Greg Simpson on bass in 2007, things realy began to gel. By the time they played their first show at NYC's Cake Shop on January 12th, 2008, they were fully formed as a band.
As luck would have it, this first show was recorded and holy shit, what a show! The tapes circulated through the underground circuit, landing on the desk of Sub Pop's Chris Jacobs – and he knew he had to sign the band the moment he heard them.
Over the course of three albums and countless singles on Sub Pop, the Obits built a formidable catalog and a rabid fanbase. We're incredibly excited to be able to release this limited edition live LP of their first show, so that you can hear how it all began. Eleven tracks, ranging from fan favorites like One Cross Apiece and Widow of My Dreams to unreleased tracks like You Took an Axe, Cake Shop is a must for any Obits fan.
Pressed on limited edition clear vinyl!
