Actually the existence of this album is slightly sensational. If one told 10 years ago that there is a new Pavlov's Dog album out, we would have explained with a grin, that this can only be a brash fake, because the brand label of Pavlov's Dog – singer/guitarist/songwriter David Surkamp – has died long ago in the 80ies. The (untrue) rumor sais, that Surkamp inhaled helium to be able to sing that uniquely – and finally died from it. This rumor strangely turned into a undoubted „fact“, after Pavlov's Dog released two phantastic albums in 1975/76, and vanished without trace for three decades. Pavlov's Dog were founded in 1973 by former Chuck Berry and Bo Didley drummer Mike Safron. After Pavlov's Dog entered the music szene in 1975 by the release of their 1st album Pampered Menial (being no less than the highest signed newcomer band ever since!), the band's 2nd album At The Sound Of The Bell was released in 1976. The guest-musicians contributing to At The Sound Of The Bell sound like a Hall Of Fame (Yes, King Crimson, Roxy Music, Steely Dan, Jazzgiant Michael Brecker, ...). The band split in 1977 during the recording sessions of their third album, and vanished as quick as they arised. But the two albums, featuring „the voice like coming from another world“, stayed solidly over the decades and became classics. A few years ago, Pampered Menial was even voted into the rank of the most important Progressive Rock albums of all times. In 2004 Pavlov's Dog unexspectedly seemed to appear from nowhere, and gave one concert in original lineup, due to the 30th anniversary of Pampered Menial. On vocals of course David Surkamp, in best health and shape. Fans flew to St. Louis from all over the world, the response blew all exspectations. After the anniversary concert the band around Surkamp & Safron was completed by young musicians, the band played annual European tours, and 2010 finally they recorded the new album Echo & Boo.
