Peter Gabriel stands among the most innovative, influential and enduring figures in modern popular music. Rising to prominence as the original lead vocalist of Genesis in the early 1970s, he became renowned for his theatrical stage performances, imaginative storytelling and distinctive vocal style. Following his departure from Genesis in 1975, Gabriel embarked upon a solo career that would establish him as one of the most adventurous and respected artists of his generation. Over the decades, he has received numerous accolades, including Grammy Awards, Brit Awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both as a member of Genesis and as a solo artist.

Gabriel's self-titled debut solo album, released in February 1977, marked the beginning of a new chapter. Produced by Bob Ezrin, the album showcased a more direct and contemporary sound while retaining the creativity and ambition that had characterised his work with Genesis. Featuring standout compositions such as "Solsbury Hill", "Modern Love" and "Here Comes the Flood", the record was met with widespread critical acclaim and demonstrated that Gabriel was fully capable of forging a successful identity beyond his former band.

To support the album, Gabriel assembled a formidable touring band and embarked upon an extensive tour of Europe and North America throughout 1977. These performances offered audiences their first opportunity to hear his new material in a live setting, while also revisiting selected highlights from his years with Genesis. The tour proved especially notable for its inclusion of several Genesis songs that Gabriel would seldom perform again, as well as a handful of carefully chosen cover versions, all delivered alongside his new solo material with renewed vigour and confidence.
