“La Macarena Su Roma,” the debut album by IOSONOUNCANE was released in 2010. “La Macarena Su Roma” burst onto the Italian music scene, quickly gaining the attention of both the public and critics.
IOSONOUNCANE was already known on Myspace for publishing several tracks (which would later form the backbone of the album) and was touring across Italy with a series of solo shows, true electronic rallies. The album features some of the Sardinian musician’s classics such as “Il Corpo Del Reato”, “Summer On A Spiaggia Affollata”, “I Superstititi”, as well as the epic title track, a nearly ten-minute piece depicting the defeated existence of a television addict with no chance of redemption.
But the entire Italian story of that era is captured in what can be described as a concept album: from the workplace deaths at Thyssenkrupp, to the “terra dei fuochi” environmental disaster, the lives of call-center workers, Berlusconism disguised as fandom, and the unresolved tragedy of migrants.
Even from this first record, it was clear that IOSONOUNCANE’s songwriting was — and still is — completely different from that of any other Italian singer-songwriter.
