During a HADES European tour, it became apparent that the band would soon break up. Guitarist Dan Lorenzo and Dan Nastasi (MUCKY PUP, DOG EAT DOG) formed Non-Fiction, which subsequently recorded an EP. However, the line-up revolved again and HADES as well as WATCHTOWER singer Alan Tecchio and bassist Kevin Bolembach (later SEVEN WITCHES, JACK FROST, among others) joined the band.
In 1991, the debut "Preface" was released on Grand Slamm Records, in Europe on Steamhammer/SPV. At the time, many fans of HADES and WATCHTOWER must have been surprised by the doom metal sound, while fans of this style remained unaware of it without the help of the Internet. It is astonishing that certain trademarks of HADES can still be found in the music of NON-FICTION (check out the 1995 reunion album of HADES). The cover artwork, reminiscent of the splendour of the Hipgnosis graphics company, gives the album a perfect aura and hints at the groove of old LED ZEPPELIN.
The second album "In The Know" is the perfect follow-up and is considered by many fans to be the band‘s absolute highlight. On "It's A Wonderful Lie" you can feel the willingness to be experimental and you can't ignore the nineties and their influences on some of the tracks.
Both HADES and WATCHTOWER (with Alan Tecchio) are - sporadically - active again today and quite a few fans hope that Non-Fiction will also make another comeback. The musical continuation, albeit a little more modern, is currently Dan Lorenzo‘s band PATRIARCHS IN BLACK, which is enjoying success in the USA.
