Hailing from Jølster, Norway, NIFROST return with a masterful display of melodic and epic black metal. Following the well-received "Blykrone" and "Orkja", it is now time for "Briseld". Once again, the legacy of Windir and the seeds planted by Enslaved and Borknagar have borne fruit in a new collection of songs.
However, since the celebrated "Orkja", the band has clearly defined a signature "Nifrost sound" - one built upon cold, ferocious sonic attacks, intense melodies, and charging guitars, proving they are more than capable of leaving their influences behind.
Traditional folk elements and the "necro" grit of black metal blend seamlessly with both harsh and clean vocals in this exciting new chapter, which further incorporates expansive and melodic song structures. While "Orkja" was bathed in blue, "Briseld" presents itself in red. Upon first listen, it is easy to recognize the balance between epic moments, such as the title track, and fast-paced episodes like "I stormens auge" and "Livskraft".
Formed in 2005, Nifrost now delivers their fourth full-length album - their third for Dusktone following a debut on Naturmacht Productions. After "Motvind", "Blykrone" and "Orkja", Briseld arrives as yet another stunning portrait of the Nordic landscape, its nature, and its folklore.
