The best band in the world? U2 reapplied for that position at the start of the new millennium and music lovers responded by sending ‘All That You Can’t Leave Behind’ to number 1 in 22 countries on its release in 2000. The band were suddenly back in the pages of NME and other ‘cool’ journals, and picking up new and younger fans while also reconnecting with the huge fan base they had built over the previous 2 decades. Since then Bono, The Edge, Adam and Larry have gone from strength to strength, releasing two further quite extraordinary albums the following decade and taking massive world tours to their fans, old and new, all across the globe.
This film, featuring rare and classic footage of U2, and including many of their very finest tunes from the period in question, plus interviews with the band and those closest to them and contributions from the finest writers and music journalists - and much more besides - gets right to the heart of U2’s amazing resurgence during this recent era. In so doing this DVD gives the viewer a clear understanding of why and how this remarkable group shot back from the fringes of disinterest to once again join the elite gathering of artists who make up the planet’s favourite musical icons.
